The climate in a few words

Spain has four climates overall the country.

Mediterranean climate is marked by Leveche winds: hot, dry, easterly or southeasterly air currents that originate over North Africa. This usually happens in spring.
A cooler easterly wind, the Levante, funnels between the Sistema Penibetico and the Atlas Mountains of North Africa. These easterly winds are the ones which most influence the Mediterranean climate, for they are mild in temperature and humid.

The inland areas of the Iberian Peninsula, on the Central Plateau, have a continental climate. The summers are very hot. There are very low temperatures in winter, with −15 °C (5 °F). Although it rarely rains during summer, there is often heavy rainfall in spring and autumn.

Northern Atlantic coast
An oceanic climate prevails from the Pyrenees to the Asturias, area which incorporating Galicia is sometimes called "Green Spain", characterised by relatively mild winters and warm summersTemperatures vary only slightly, both on a diurnal and a seasonal basis, and averages range from 9 °C (48.2 °F) in January to 21 °C (69.8 °F) in July. The moderating effects of the sea are less prominent further inland, where temperatures are more extreme than those on the coast. Distance from the Atlantic Ocean also has an effect on precipitation levels, so there is less rainfall in the east than in the west. Autumn (October to December) is the wettest season, while July is the driest month.

The Canary Islands
The Canary Islands have a subtropical climate in terms of temperature, this being mild and stable (18 to 24 °C or 64 to 75 °F) throughout the year. In terms of precipitation, the eastern islands are semiarid while the westernmost ones receive more rainfall, with some very wet areas in the mountains of La Gomera and La Palma, home to the cloud forest known as laurisilva.

The Medditerrenean climate is also good for asthmatics, as it is warm and moist. I have a relative who has been living in Spain for quite a long time now, and she hasn't had any difficulties in breathing there. So ASTHMATICS, Medditerrenean climate can be a very good choice towards the recovery of your health :)

In September 2011 Northern Spain(Medditerrenean climate, Catalunya) looked like this (personal pictures) :

The great languages of Spain

As i guess that you already know, the basic language in Spain is spanish but as in many countries, the languages also varie in Spain.

I will make a few conclusions about the main languages.

Spanish (castellano) – the most spoken romance language, about 410 million people in the world speak it as a native language ! You can find the most spanish-speaking people in Spain and Latin-America-

On the second place lies the catalan language(also known as valencian) with 9% of the population !
Catalan is used as the national and only official language of Andorra and a co-official language of Catalonia(Barcelona), the Balearic Islands and the Valencian Community. Catalan has even made its way to receive the semi-official status in the city of Alghero on the Italian island of Sardinia.

From then on come galician and basque.

It’s also good to know that many people in Spain are bilingual, so they speak f.e. spanish and catalan.

I personally have been in the environment of both spanish and catalan language, of which i only speak spanish.

When you listen to the catalan language, you can easily tell that it is a mixture of spanish and french.

Though there are lots of languages in the lands of Spain, these, spanish and catalan are the mainly used ones, so if you’re ever planning on living in Spain, you should consider learning a little bit of these beautiful rich languages first ;)

The people

As every person interested in Spain or Latin-America, i too have kept an eye on the behaviores and manners of latinos. As you already know, i live in Estonia and my country is known for – what i would call – stubborn people who don’t know how to properly enjoy life but search for the satisfaction in not love and family ( of course there are exceptions ), but in cheap pleasures, often alcohol and nightclubs. Not that i find that bad – certainly not, but estonians tend to overvalue these components and they often tend to find the cure for their heartache at the bottom of a glass.

In my eyes, estonians are often raised in fear, the knowledge about the past and misery. We are wanted to be a part of the system, to never leave our country unattended, and unfortunately it makes us a little more bitter and lonely.

On the other hand, latinos are known for their temperament, they have a little more personality to fight for what they want in life. Yes, many people don’t get what they have dreamed about, but that isn’t about a country of nationality, it depends on people themselves.

When i first went to the wedding of my cousin who lives in Spain, i felt that i had found a missing part of me, something that couldn’t come out with estonians. My inner spanish person. I felt alive, i danced, i spoke the little spanish i knew, i had tons of fun. I felt free.

Estonians – i see that especially in my parents - tend to be very conservative and controlled.

So , here is the first big reason why i love Spain ! J

A small introduction

Hello there !

I have been thinking about starting blogging again recently, but didn't know what to write about. Since i noticed that a lot of foreigners kept an eye on my recent blog - about my month in Denmark - i have decided to start blogging in english, so that more people could join me on my mind trip to Spain :)

I am a nineteen, soon to be a twenty-year-old girl from Estonia, north of Europe and i have always been a fan on Spain and spanish language.

It all started when i was a little girl. Me and my aunt used to watch latin soap-operas together almost every day. I started by singing the songs. My first soap-opera song, that came from a telenovela with the same name, was called "Preciosa".

I'm sure that many people still remember that sopa-opera and that song. Unfortunately, it's not allowed for me to post the songs address in here, but you can find it easily on youtube.

Anyways, that was my first communication with the spanish language. From then on, i just watched the soap-operas and remebered the basic words, you know, such as Hola ! and Si / No . The easy stuff. But with every day i learned something new. I actually don't even know at what point i knew how to speak spanish on the level i do now ( it's on the third level of the four languages i speak : Estonian(native), english, spanish and russian(needed to survive in Estonia). I guess it was easier to start speaking spanish(castellano) with the knowledge about the english language. So, i started learning english in the second grade( i was 9 y.o.) and russian the next year.

I actually have learned spanish a little bit. When i first had the buzz about liking spanish and Spain, i asked my aunt to borrow me her studybook called ¡Hola español! (she is also interested in the culture and language, most of all the telenovelas and the music).
I studied for a few weeks during my summer vacation and got to know some of the basic words and the word forms, such as madre(mama), padre(papa), kind of all of the basic stuff (relatives, some actions a.s.o).

Though i learned something from the book, i haven't been much of a fan in learning like that. I tend to learn the best while being in the same environment, so that's why listening to latin music and watching latin soap-operas and for now on spanish movies is the best way for me to learn spanish.

I hope you liked the first post and i will continue on giving on my experience about Spain and spanish people and all about it.

Hasta pronto !
